ABOUT me

In case you don’t know me, hi! I’m Helen, a writer, businesswoman, and coffee addict.

I have an extensive background as a healthcare professional and senior leader in the UK National Health Service (NHS), along with being a mother to three young children and a well-travelled military spouse. This eclectic mix of attributes brings a unique blend of clinical insight, professional credibility, and life experience to my work.

MY BACKGROUND AS A CLINICAL SPECIALIST

Over 10 years of writing NHS policy, clinical protocols, and standard operating procedures as a senior respiratory specialist underpins my scientific work. Meanwhile, my time spent producing patient education tools, combined with teaching medical staff, forms the basis of a unique ability to translate complex medical material into easily understood content.

At the heart of my writing is a promise to produce newsworthy, relevant, and engrossing material, while remaining true to scientific values forged during my time as clinical respiratory specialist.

I work remotely and internationally, meaning that location is not a barrier to giving your health or well-being message a strong and credible voice.

Helen Massy's brand values

So you know what to expect when working with me, here are my brand values:

  • My medical and health writing prioritises accuracy and evidence-based information to provide readers with reliable content that aligns with the latest medical research.

  • I approach health topics with sensitivity, acknowledging diverse perspectives and ensuring our content is inclusive and considerate of different beliefs and experiences.

  • Transparency is paramount in my health writing, as I strive to communicate openly about the complexities of health issues, presenting both benefits and potential risks for a well-rounded understanding.

  • My commitment extends beyond information dissemination; I aim to create a supportive community, offering resources and encouragement to empower individuals on their health journeys.

As many of us do, I wear several hats and try to give back where possible.

Here are some of the other things I'm involved in.

Career Pursuit CIC

As a military spouse of over 20 years, I have faced the challenges of trying to balance a career alongside military life.

It was through my own experiences that Career Pursuit was born. After leaving a specialist career in the NHS, due to moving with the military, I had to begin a new career alongside raising a young family and moving internationally. On reaching out for support, I couldn’t find any, despite going to the local and national military information centres.

I slowly learned, predominantly through word of mouth, about the wealth of employment and entrepreneur support available from a myriad of wonderful organisations. However, it took months as there was no central location for partners to find career support.

Therefore, I founded Career Pursuit to overcome this barrier. We support spouses and partners on their career journey by bringing all employment and entrepreneur resources into one central point of access. We do the research to provide you with a range of career support options so you can build a flexible career around your military lifestyle.

The Celebrating Forces Families Awards and Partner Employment Working Group

As the founder of Career Pursuit CIC, I also sit on the Ministry of Defence Partner Employment Working Group (PEWG). The PEWG works collaboratively to provide information to, signpost, and support individuals and their families in navigating the complexities of employment within the military community.

The PEWG are the team behind the Celebrating Forces Families Awards – a unique event devoted to recognising and applauding the strength, accomplishments, and inspiring career journeys within the Armed Forces community.

I’m enormously proud to be part of the PEWG and the Celebrating Forces Families Awards organising committee.
